The Alberta Health Services Provincial Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is a committee of patients and family members from across Alberta, who volunteer their time and experience to improve the quality, safety and experience of health care services. Together, with senior and executive leaders, physicians, clinicians and clinical support teams, the Advisors work ensure the voices of patients and family are included in the design and planning of policies and services within Alberta Health Services.  In early 2022, the AHS Patient and Family Advisory Group (PFG) and the Connect Care Patient and Family Advisory Committee (CCPFAC) came together into one Council, rich in diversity based on geography, age, gender, background, culture and patient/family experiences.

Using online technology, advisors meet monthly - with a break for summer - to provide input on various AHS goals and initiatives. This is achieved through a partnership with patients and families to improve quality, safety, and the patient experience leading to a transformation of the health care system in Alberta. Consultations may be one-time sessions or be a longer-term relationship, depending on the scope of the initiative.
