Call 811

It is safe to get influenza vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time, and/or at the same time as other routine immunizations.

You don’t need to have an appointment for each vaccine type in order to receive them. If you have an appointment for yourself or your child for a routine immunization or COVID-19 immunization – when you get to your appointment, you can ask your healthcare provider if you want to also receive the influenza vaccine at the same time.

Prepare For Your Appointment

  • If you have a fear of needles or concerns about pain associated with immunization, learn more at Commitment to Comfort.
  • Wear clothing that will allow easy access to the upper arm.
  • Bring required identification.
  • Arrive as close to your appointment time as you can.
  • Do not attend your appointment if you have symptoms of respiratory illness or test positive for COVID-19.
  • Follow safety protocols in place: wash / sanitize your hands, wear a mask (masks are required for individuals age two and older), keep your distance (2m / 6 ft) from others.

Eligibility - COVID-19 Immunization

First Dose:

  • Albertans age 6 months or older

Second Dose:

  • Albertans age 5 and older
    • recommended at a minimum of eight weeks after first dose

    • recommended at a minimum of five months after the last dose of the primary series

    • recommended at a minimum of five months after the first booster dose

Novavax: Available at select AHS clinics. Due to limited supply, bookings are only available through Health Link by calling 811

Walk-In Clinics: No appointment COVID-19 AHS Clinics & Pharmacies. This age group must book through the online tool or through Health Link by calling 811

Eligibility - Influenza Immunization

All Albertans, six months of age and older, are eligible to be immunized, free of charge.

AHS is offering vaccine through public health clinics to:

  • children under five years of age and their family and household members
  • individuals who do not have a provincial health care number
  • individuals who live in a community where there are no other immunizing healthcare providers.

Children under five years of age must be immunized at an AHS clinic or participating doctor's office.

Albertans five years of age and older can get immunized at participating pharmacies and doctor's offices. Contact your pharmacy or doctor's office to find out more.

COVID-19 Booster

You may also be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine booster. For individuals five years of age and older, the influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same appointment using different injection sites on the body. A second appointment is not required. Please speak to your immunizer about COVID-19 vaccine eligibility.

  • you do not have a provincial health care number
  • you live in a community where there are no immunizing health care providers
  • you need help booking an appointment for yourself or for your children or family members

AHS Public Health Clinics are not offering walk-in immunizations. Many pharmacies are accepting walk-in appointments and will be offering both influenza vaccine and COVID-19 boosters.
