Retirement is a significant life event for anyone, and we’re committed to your success – now, and in the future. The Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) is a defined benefit pension plan. This pension promises a specified monthly amount that is payable for life after retirement. The pension amount is predetermined by a formula based on age, pensionable salary, and pensionable service. AHS plan members and AHS share the cost of LAPP.
AHS is proud to offer employees a Group Savings Plan, providing employees with more ways to set aside money to meet their financial goals by opening a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and/or Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). Benefits of the plan include lower investment management fees than with individual plans and contributions through convenient payroll deductions.
RRSP - Savings for your retirement
Allows contributions to be tax deductible from your current taxable income with taxes deferred until these savings are withdrawn.
TFSA - Savings for your future needs
A special savings account where no tax is paid on investment earnings, capital gains and dividends earned on after-taxed funds deposited into the account.
Every AHS employee and their immediate family members have access to a variety of free and confidential support services. The Employee & Family Assistance Program provides immediate and relevant support that can help you take action to achieve and maintain your mental and physical well-being.
Physical activity has an impact on our overall wellness. To make physical activity more affordable and accessible to our employees, AHS has negotiated discounted rates with over 150 fitness and recreation facilities across the province.
At AHS we believe in providing access to development opportunities and resources so you can not only do your job effectively but also bring your potential to life. A variety of learning resources are available covering everything from best practice training to leadership skills. Learning is delivered three ways: face-to-face learning (classroom), e-learning and a combination of both called blended learning.
AHS offers employees in certain areas of the North non-pensionable allowances in addition to their basic rate of pay.
