What does this job look like at AHS?

Psychologists at AHS diagnose and treat emotional or adjustment problems in children, adults, families or groups. They assess and treat the psychological factors associated with physical health problems. Some of the core duties can include performing screening and intake procedures, administering and interpreting psychological tests, providing psychological interventions, facilitating referrals and participating in formal research programs.

AHS employs both Psychologists I and Psychologists II. The Psychologist I work independently reporting to a Psychologist II, director or manager. The Psychologist I provides psychological services involving assessment, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and program application. The Psychologist II provides similar services but also has experience with complex client pathologies and may work as an operational supervisor or team leader. As a clinical lead the Psychologist II is involved with program planning, developing standards and analyzing work statistics of their assigned team.

Psychologists at AHS spend much of their time in direct contact with clients and are employed at a number of different facilities including hospitals, clinics, and mental health facilities. When working with their clients psychologists can be exposed to potentially violent and aggressive situations and may be required to travel during varying road and weather conditions.

Psychologists can work full-time or part-time hours. They may apply for positions that are permanent or temporary depending on the department and facility needs. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening and weekend shifts, as well as on-call duty.
