A student placement is any unpaid practice education experience (also called placement, practicum, clinical, fieldwork, internship, experiential learning, etc.) that is a requirement of an educational program.

A clinical placement is one where the individual is in a position that will be directly involved with patient care or directly provide patient care. For example: nurses, therapists, geneticists, dietitians, counselors, emergency medical technicians, opticians, and pharmacists.
Student Placement Prerequisites
All AHS student placement requests must originate from your post-secondary institution and be directed through the Health Science Placement Network (HSPnet) or the Student Placement Team.
Requests received from students directly will not be accepted.
Please note:
Students attending an international post-secondary institution (including students from the United States) who wish to request a placement with AHS, should read the international students section of our Frequently Asked Questions. The international post-secondary institution is required to email Student.Placements@ahs.ca directly to discuss the process and prerequisites.
Please note: We require a time frame of 6 months for international student placement requests.
If you have any questions, the Student Placement Team is available to support students and placement coordinators with this process, please email Student.Placements@ahs.ca.
A non-clinical placement is one where the individual will not have direct contact with a patient and will not provide care or support for their care. Examples include human resources professionals, finance, maintenance staff, secretaries or administrative assistants.
AHS offers placement opportunities for non-clinical post-secondary students, where a placement is a requirement of the program.
Your placement coordinator will submit the documents mentioned above to us. Once these documents have been received by AHS, we will assist you with finding a suitable placement, wherever possible.
If you have any questions, Student Strategies is available to support students and placement coordinators with this process, please email Student.Strategies@ahs.ca.
